Mothers are protective and loving. Aunts are friends who listen and love you the same as your mother.  Grandmothers teach you more, because you will listen to them. Grandmothers are good teachers too!

My grandmother from my Dad’s side, taught me how to cook. She taught me etiquette at the table and in the household, the old fashioned way.  She inspired me so much in my life. Most of all, she loved me as a daughter.  Of course she had two boys and I was the first grandchild. I was a girl.  But, I learned about God and the Christian way of treating people.  I owe being a nurse and being a  compassionate person to my Me-ma, my father and my grandfather.

My mothers’ mom taught me so much as well.  She taught me the beauty of gardening and cooking.  I helped with the gardening and watched how she cooked. She was too proud to have any one help her cook.  As a young child, I would help my grandmother clear the table and wash dishes along with two of my aunts.

To my Mother, I am so glad we have been close, especially in my later adult years.  I know you did not cook, but I made up for that!! Mom, you are the one who inspired me to cook good food for us all!! I love you!

Sweet Tea

To my mother-in-law.  Since you passed, I have made sure that I took care of your son.  I have so much respect for you.  I miss you so much!  I make his favorite foods that you and his grandmother made. You know his favorites are country fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. His favorite desserts are your own, banana pudding and red velvet cake. Every time I make these recipes and desserts, I think of you Dawn (my mother-in-law). I miss you and know you are happy in Heaven with your Christmas Shoes!

To my oldest child’s grandmother, Jane; Thank You for being a friend, a mother and just being you!  You taught me so much.  You treated me as your own daughter.  I could never thank you enough.  I love the times when we took turns cooking dinner. I love to remember us hanging laundry on the line, cleaning the house together, going to the store for groceries and keeping the wood stove fire going at all times in the winter. Jane, you were a blessing to me. Jane, you are amazing.  You showed me compassion and love when others did not at that time in my life.  I have missed you so much through out the years. But, you know that we have always had a special bond.
